MY JOURNEY

A passionate UX leader with 15+ years of experience across startups, enterprise, B2B and B2C with a recent focus on healthcare

I started my career in brand design, working in advertising, marketing, and small or startup teams. As I progressed, I traded my visual design expertise for product and engineering knowledge—helping product and development teams establish digital design systems while I learned how to support product, business, and engineering goals and sparked a new joy in finding the intersection of value for users. I’ve continued to hone my product design experience in a variety of industries, from digital car shopping to banks and financial services to the health and wellness space, collaborating with diverse teams to test, research, and build accessible, streamlined user experiences.

My last 7 years in healthcare have been distinctly different and have raised the stakes for me. Seeing every problem through the member lens has revitalized my passion for design and inspires me to push myself and the work I touch with the goal of impacting people and their everyday lives for the better.

What kind of designer am I?

Curious learner

One of those most fun things is not knowing something. It’s an opportunity to listen, learn, and try something new. Whether I’m discovering how to tackle a problem through data, analytics, and testing to choose the right strategy or leveraging new tools that power innovation and improvement—I am here to learn.

Iterative thinker

It’s important to know what the ideal solution is for our users. Often, it’s equally important to have a plan to get there iteratively over time. I’m a long term thinker, who understands how to move fast when needed with whatever resources are available while having a goal for continuous growth over time to get to where you really want to go.

Comfortable collaborator

A good idea can come from anywhere and anyone. The trick is fostering the right environment for that idea to be heard. I believe in creating welcoming team dynamics that give space for collaboration to thrive, encourage discussion, synthesize ideas, coach other designers—listening above all and guiding differences to a solution that everyone can be proud of.

Versatile partner

Starting off my career on small teams taught me how to wear any hat gracefully, learning as I go with confidence. Because of this I’ve learned to see everything through a cross-functional lens. From helping product influence future strategy and sales, to crafting copy for busy writers, to helping engineers build scalable, efficient systems—If I see a gap, I step in to fill it.

Recommendations

What my managers over the years have said about me.

She’s excited to get her hands dirty, setting up collaborative Miro boards, scheduling meetings to explore solutions and brainstorm, bringing in stakeholders across the business, product and engineering teams. Casey is always willing to listen to everyone’s perspective and ideas, which creates a psychologically safe environment for anyone who works with her to share openly, fostering a healthy sense of creativity and collaboration.”

    Kate Muelle

    Dir UX Design

Casey is excellent at presenting her work, thoroughly explaining design decisions to stakeholders and gaining consensus amongst design, product, and engineering, even when those meetings may be stressful or contentious. Her ability to clearly discuss her point of view while still being open to new ideas has been extremely valuable not only for her specific projects, but also for her peers. She has set a great example for the rest of the team on how to present their work and take feedback without letting egos get in the way.

She sees projects not just from her own design perspective, but from that of others, making her an empathetic and helpful partner. She is able to go with the flow, push forward or back when appropriate, and keeps partners talking so the work keeps moving. From helping develop roadmaps to aligning different stakeholders, Casey is an instrumental team member.”

She effortlessly stepped into a few design roles last year, without skipping a beat, she was able to shift and established herself quickly across new products and systems. The breadth of her talent is paired with an inner ability to figure out the most complex puzzles quickly. Casey is measured, conscientious, constructive, and supportive.
